Rooming In

--We arrived at the hospital around 3:00 p.m. We walked into the NICU with overwhelming, mixed emotions - excitement, nervousness. We were greeted and congratulated by all the nurses and staff.
--We met with the representative of Apria Healthcare (home health that will be providing the monitors and oxygen). We were trained on how to operate the monitors, etc.
--We (with the nurses help) took Daniel off the hospital's monitors and 02 and "hooked" him up to ours. We were then taken to our room (for the night). We got settled in and Daddy headed out to get supper and to pick up a few needed supplies.
--The nurses said that Daniel was "all ours". (They were avaliable at a push of a button.)
--We took over Daniel's care and it was amazing.
--We met with Dr. Campbell to go over all the discharge information and follow up appointments (slightly overwhelming).
--All the nurses came to say bye to us before they got off duty. (We have grown so close to both the NICU nurses and the OB nurses.) We handed out gifts and hugged and said our goodbyes.
--The night was spent waking up every few hours to check on Daniel and to feed him.
--Robin (Daniel's night nurse) had told us to call him around his 2 a.m. feeding and she would come get him, feed him and give him a bath. We called Robin. We hated to see him leave but we knew we would get him back and it gave us a couple hours sleep. (We think Robin wanted one last night with him.)
